La Bombance [Hong Kong] - Weekend Kaiseki Lunch with Champagne, Wagyu & Truffle Kama Meshi Rice

La Bombance of Tokyo fame is of Michelin 1 Star status in its homeland, and on Hong Kong side it opened in 2016 and also received a Michelin recommendation quickly. We came here to try out the La Bombance Weekend Kaiseki Lunch Menu - which is HKD $680. With two glasses of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label & Vintage 2008 pairing it's an additional $240, and with the above two Champagnes and the rarer Veuve Clicquot Extra Brut Extra Old its plus $420 on top.

La Bombance Hong Kong -
V Point, Causeway Bay

Weekend Lunch Menu at $680 -

Veuve Clicquot Brut NV Champagne - To start Our Meal
With Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label & Vintage 2008 Pairing,  Add $240 for 2 Glasses
With additional Veuve Clicquot Extra Brut Extra Old,  it's $420 for 3 Glasses

Entrée of Champagne Jelly with 平貝 Pan Shellfish, 車えび Kuruma Ebi,
馬糞ウニ Hokkaido Bafun Sea Urchin, served with Summer Vegetables & Champagne Jelly -

A colourful starter, nowadays this combination of flavors is almost expected at a classy Japanese restaurant.  Here to suit with the Veuve Clicquot theme, Champagne Jelly is added.

Summer Baby Leaf Sashimi Salad -
With Conger Eel 鱧 & Apricot Plum Sauce, Suzuki 鱸, Fried Prawn head & sashimi, Taira Gai, Myoga With Champagne Cubes & Vinaigrette Dressing... Another colourful composition.  The Taira Gai scallops and Conger Eel are quite uniquely Kaiseki style.

Veuve Clicquot Vintage 2008 -
The 2nd Champagne,  this was quite Crisp & Dry with lovely Citrus, Stone fruits and Minerality.. I was saying at the time that for a Veuve Clicquot, this was actually quite a gentleman's more masculine champagne..!

85°C Steamed Egg Chawanmushi in 阿波尾雞 Chicken Broth,
Pan Seared Foie Gras & Crispy Rice, Topped with French Summer Truffles -

A Signature Dish at La Bombance HK & Tokyo.  This was lovely with the concentrated Japanese Chicken broth,  silky foie gras and Truffle flavors.  Actually it reminds me of a dish served by Andre's in Singapore too..

Veuve Clicquot Extra Brut Extra Old Champage -
The new release and which is limited and Aged for double the time,  with a peach note and roundness,  and despite the extra brut labelling which requires very low sugar, it is relatively fruity sweet and approachable.

Roasted Kagoshima Wagyu Beef, Champagne Pickles, Awaji Island Onion -
This option for Main Course does not cost a Supplementary charge, which is welcome.  The Wagyu had a decent wagyu meat & fat flavour.  Personally I thought this was good but could handle slightly more sear on the surface, which are real Charcoal grilled here..

Veuve Clicquot Champagnes for our Weekend Lunch Pairing -

Kamameshi Rice Pot, with Australian Black Truffle & French Summer Truffle -
Cooked with a base dashi stock,  this is really fragrant with the mixture of both seasons truffles.  There is also some okoge burnt rice bits at the bottom..

Kamameshi Truffle Rice with Japanese Egg sauce -
Really gorgeous.  What I liked is that it really had real Truffle Fragrance,  since after truffle arrives into Hong Kong,  some fragrance falter away....  and this Course is part of the Lunch Kaiseki Menu

Miso Soup & Pickles -
Part of the Kamameshi rice course,  as per traditional Kaiseki

Japanese Peach Compote & Champagne Sorbet -
A refreshing Dessert Course with more Champagne theme..

Champagne Jelly & Peach Compote beneathe..

House grinded Black Sesame Sorbet -
This was given to us as a 2nd dessert as a surprise..  It was toasted then grinded here, and is a signature dessert course

The Weekend Kaiseki Lunch at $680 -
It included Fresh Sashimi, then Truffles and Wagyu Courses without supplementary charges, so in that sense it is a good bargain.  Add in the Veuve Clicquot Champagne options and we were saying it really suits many lady customers who want a lighter style lunch with plenty of Champagnes!  They also have decently priced Lunch Sets here on week days, which I am keen to revisit to try soon.
